Frequently asked questions
What sets meo apart from other software in your industry?
Section titled “What sets meo apart from other software in your industry?”meo brings document requests, electronic signatures, a client portal in your branding and document retention together in one tool. One request groups the documents, information and signatures you expect. Your client answers it on a page in your name, without creating an account, and what they send arrives filed in their folder.
meo also protects privacy: the portal records your client’s consent, the Activity log keeps track of actions, expired documents can be deleted automatically, and the Privacy page holds your registers and your public privacy portal. meo is available in French and English. Your documents are hosted in Montréal, Canada.
Why use meo rather than Google Drive or a shared link?
Section titled “Why use meo rather than Google Drive or a shared link?”Because a meo request tells your client exactly what to provide. With a shared link, they drop their files wherever they like, and you then check what is missing. With meo, they see on a single page, in your name and with your logo, the documents, information and signatures you expect. meo sends them the reminders you chose, and what they send arrives filed in their folder.
meo also keeps the history: the Activity log, in Settings, shows who created, viewed, changed or deleted what, and when. If you turn it on in your space, meo also deletes documents that reach their expiry date. Your documents are hosted in Montréal, Canada.
What is meo?
Section titled “What is meo?”meo is an online platform for collecting, signing and keeping your clients’ documents. You send a request to a client. They answer it in a portal with your name and logo, without creating an account, and what they send arrives filed in their folder.
meo also brings together your contacts, your tasks, your documents and privacy tools for your organisation. It runs in the browser, with nothing to install, in French or English. Your documents are hosted in Montréal, Canada.
Is meo a CRM?
Section titled “Is meo a CRM?”No. meo is a document management platform for your work with clients: requests, signatures, documents and retention. It does not handle a sales pipeline or email campaigns.
meo does keep a record for each contact, with their Owner, their Status, their tasks, their information, their requests and their documents. If you use a CRM for sales or marketing, meo works alongside it.
Does meo integrate with your other tools?
Section titled “Does meo integrate with your other tools?”meo works on its own, alongside your current software, which it does not replace: it is not connected to any accounting or management software, and there is no integration to set up. Your data moves from one tool to another through imports and exports:
- Import, on the Contacts page, adds up to 5,000 contacts from a CSV or Excel file;
- the Documents page takes your existing folders with their subfolders: see Move your existing folders into meo;
- you download a document, or a whole folder as a ZIP file;
- Export the data, on a contact’s record, downloads their data in a file;
- Export, in the Activity log, downloads the log as a CSV file.
Who is meo for?
Section titled “Who is meo for?”Service businesses across Canada that collect documents and personal information from their clients: accounting firms, notaries, lawyers, real estate and mortgage brokers, clinics, agencies and many more.
meo works just as well for one person as for an organisation with several offices. Each space holds the contacts, documents and requests of a person, a team, an office or a brand. See How many spaces to create.
Can you suggest features specific to your industry?
Section titled “Can you suggest features specific to your industry?”Yes, and your suggestions are welcome. Describe your need and how you work through the chat bubble at the bottom right of the screen in meo, or at support@documeo.ca.
Before you write, look at the Catalogue: a request template or a custom question often covers a need specific to your field. See Create a custom question for your client to fill in.
Why is the product called meo or DocuMeo?
Section titled “Why is the product called meo or DocuMeo?”Both names refer to the same product. The product is called meo, and documeo.ca is its web address: the site is at documeo.ca and the application at app.documeo.ca.
Your clients also see the words “Documents Meo” on the client portal and in some emails.
Who is behind meo?
Section titled “Who is behind meo?”meo belongs to 9553-6785 Québec Inc., a Quebec company that operates the software. It is the company named in meo’s terms and conditions and privacy policy.
Is there a mobile app?
Section titled “Is there a mobile app?”No, and you do not need one: meo opens in your phone’s browser, at app.documeo.ca. On a phone, open the menu with the button at the top left. In Contacts, Requests and Documents, the + button at the bottom right replaces the New button.
Every page in the menu shows on a phone, except Privacy, which needs a larger screen: meo shows “Screen too small” there. A few actions stay on the computer, such as copying a document or sharing a folder from Documents.
meo works in recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on a computer as on a phone.
Can your clients respond from their phone?
Section titled “Can your clients respond from their phone?”Yes. The client portal opens in the browser of a phone, a tablet or a computer, with no app to install. Your client uploads their documents, fills in the information you asked for and signs from whatever device they have at hand.
When they tap the drop zone, their phone offers to take a photo or choose a file, if the requested document accepts images. They can also switch the portal to French or English. See Client portal.
Is meo already used by other businesses in your industry?
Section titled “Is meo already used by other businesses in your industry?”meo does not publish a list of its clients. It is designed for any service business that collects documents and personal information, and it adapts to your field from sign-up: request templates for your field are already in your account.
For a question about your industry, write to us through the chat bubble or at support@documeo.ca. See How do you reach meo support?
Do you offer single sign-on or sending emails from your own servers?
Section titled “Do you offer single sign-on or sending emails from your own servers?”Yes, on request. Sending emails from your organisation’s own domain is available with the Entreprise and Sur mesure plans; single sign-on (SAML / OIDC), with the Sur mesure plan. The meo team sets them up with you. On the other plans, your team signs in with an email and a password, or with Google or Microsoft, and emails to your clients come from the notifications.documeo.ca domain, under your space’s public name followed by “via Meo” and with the space’s logo.
